Aquaculture and Ecosystems: An Integrated Coastal and Ocean Management Approach 2006. Edited by: James P. McVey, Cheng-Sheng Lee, and Patricia J. O?Bryen World Aquaculture Society, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United States. 240 pp.

The Aquaculture Interchange Program (AIP) is pleased to announce the publication of the proceedings of the April 2005 AIP workshop, ?The Role of Aquaculture in Integrated Coastal and Ocean Management: An Ecosystem Approach,? as a book, Aquaculture and Ecosystems: An Integrated Coastal and Ocean Management Approach, by The World Aquaculture Society.

The first part of the book comprises a description by teams from selected countries of specific areas for applying an ecosystem-based approach to aquaculture: the Bay of Fundy in Canada, Yueqing Bay in China, Gamak Bay in Korea, the Gulf of Maine in the United States, and Ha Long Bay in Vietnam; and suggested data collection methods by the team from Japan. The chapters discuss the challenges and next steps to be taken for each of the selected areas. The second part of the book is the additional perspectives from Chile, Malaysia, Sweden, and Taiwan. The third part of the book comprises the outcomes of the workshop and the breakout discussion sessions. An appendix provides a list of contact information and areas of specialization of the workshop participants.

For further information and to order a copy of the book, please contact Dr.Craig Browdy.

Microbial Approaches to Aquatic Nutrition within Environmentally Sound Aquaculture Production Systems. Cheng-Sheng Lee & Pat O\'Bryen, editors. 2002. Publ. World Aquaculture Society. Sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Admin. (NOAA) and OI.

Description: Microbial Approaches to Aquatic Nutrition within Environmentally Sound Aquaculture Production Systems is the peer-reviewed proceedings of a workshop sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and organized by The Oceanic Institute. The workshop\'s purpose was to better understand, monitor, and control both the positive and negative potential of microbes in agriculture. The book contains review papers and original research carried out by leading experts on microbial ecology, water quality, pond dynamics, rumen ecosystems, wastewater treatment, and a variety of aquaculture production systems in Australia, Japan, the U.K., and the U.S.A. This book is an invaluable reference for academia, researchers, and the industry.
